About MICHAEL TAIT
Michael DeWayne Tait (born May 18, 1966) is one third of the multi-award winning Christian Rock band dc Talk and founded the Tait band. Tait is a self-taught guitar player and highly accomplished singer. One of Tait's five sisters is Lynda Randle, who is a gospel singer with the Gaither Homecoming Series. Tait met Toby McKeehan and Kevin Max while attending Liberty University in the late 1980s. Together they formed the band dc Talk and released 5 acclaimed studio albums. In 2000, the band decided to take a break with the release of Intermission: the Greatest Hits while all three members devoted themselves to solo projects. After dc Talk's hiatus was announced, Tait dedicated more time to his band Tait (which he named after his father, Nathel). Tait had partially formed this band around 1997. One of the original members was guitarist Pete Stewart (from the hard rock band Grammatrain), who is featured on the first album, but absent from the second one due to his departing the band to work on his own solo projects. Tait would join the Newsboys in 2009, scoring the hit single "God's Not Dead (Like a Lion)" featuring Kevin Max, a cover of the Passion song, following it's usage in the Christian film God's Not Dead, which was a major commercial success. The song would later be certified double platinum by the RIAA. The Newsboys would later be affiliated with future installments in the God's Not Dead series. The band would release eight albums total with Tait before his departure from the group in January of 2025. On June 7, 2025, Tait was accused of sexual assault by The Roys Report, which alledges that Tait engaged in predatory behavior since at least 2004. One week later, Tait would issue a statement on Instagram confessing to what he was accused of. Tait also retired from music as a result.
