She rose to prominence for her roles in several Broadway musicals including her performance as Glinda in Wicked. Katharine Hope McPhee (born March 25, 1984) is an American pop singer, songwriter, and actress from Los Angeles, California, United States . She gained fame as a contestant on the fifth season of the Fox reality show American Idol in 2006, eventually finishing as the runner-up. In 2012 Hilty and McPhee were cast as competing actresses trying to land the lead role of Marilyn Monroe in a musical about her life in the American musical drama television series Smash (2012-2013)
