"Wong is no ordinary performer." - R. Kurt Osenlund, Pennington Post Matt Wong, a guitar player from West Windsor, New Jersey is far from ordinary. Only 15 years old, the teenager has demonstrated musical abilities beyond his age. He has performed live at shows all over New Jersey and has released a CD. Matt picked up the guitar at age six and has been playing ever since. He currently focuses on playing what he calls, "fingerstyle," which allows him to play the melody, rhythm, and bass parts, as well as a little percussion simultaneously. Wong was first inspired to play this style when he heard legendary guitarist, Tommy Emmanuel playing using this method via YouTube. Emmanuel has had a large impact on Matt's musical journey. Using fingerstyle, Matt has composed several originals and has also arranged a number of well known songs. His originals are Jazz based, but also include elements of Rock and Classical music. As a touring artist, Matt has performed at shows throughout New Jersey. Wong has been invited to perform at notable events including Cafe Improv and Indie Music Night in Princeton, the Junebug Artfest in Metuchen, and Art All Night in Trenton. Matt has also appeared with Rebop, a Jazz group at Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes fundraiser, an event that was sponsored by Novo Nordisk for a crowd of approximately 600 people. This August, Matt will be doing his Summer 2012 Tour which will include dates in New Jersey, New York City, and the Philly area. Matt has shared the stage with well known artists such as Taylor Hope, Nikki Briar, Writer's Block, Sarah Donner, Kelly Carvin, and Wakah Chan. As an aspiring producer, Matt has also done work in the studio. In the summer of 2011, Wong self produced his debut album Fly me to the Moon, which was released on October 20, 2011. The album features 6 originals and 6 cover tunes which were all arranged by Matt. The album has received much praise from both fans and music industry professionals. Matt's original song, Summertime Skies is a favorite track among all listeners. "Matt is a great guitar player. He has a very established technique and always knows what he is doing.
