About Matanza Ritual
The fusion of powerful doses of hardcore, metal, and country brings Matanza Ritual to life, formed in 2019 by vocalist Jimmy London. In this new endeavor following the dissolution of Matanza, the singer and songwriter assembled a true all-star team of Brazilian rock: Felipe Andreoli (bass, also from Angra), Antônio Araújo (guitar, ex-Korzus), and Amílcar Christófaro (drums, Torture Squad). The band’s name is about exorcising one’s own demons—letting go of bad things in order to have fun. “Ritual was born because the need to purge our demons never dies. Every show is an exorcism of the things we go through in our daily lives, and we use art to throw away everything bad, leaving sweaty, happy, and exhausted,” Jimmy explains. Matanza Ritual is also the materialization of Jimmy London’s restlessness to be on stage, create music, and remain constantly active in the world of mass entertainment. “We want to create a party, to revive that ‘insane ritual’ that used to happen at Matanza shows. To do that, we called on the very best musicians in the country to be the monks of all this madness.” Their first release was the 2020 single “Tempo Ruim,” a reinterpretation of a classic from Matanza’s fourth album, A Arte do Insulto. The song also received a music video, introducing the lineup that remains to this day. Next came their first original track, “Sujeito Amargo,” released in 2022. The song was written by Antônio together with Jimmy London, with the idea of conveying the discomfort and anxiety felt deep inside by the so-called bitter individual. In 2023, Matanza Ritual released the mocking and critical track “Rei Morto” on streaming platforms along with a music video. The song addresses people who offer opinions on everything and have a different personality for every everyday situation—the notorious type with a “king in the belly.” Jimmy London also ventures into acting and hosting. His résumé includes awards for Best Album and Best Show of the Year, granted by the newspaper O Globo, as well as appearances at major Brazilian festivals such as Rock in Rio and Lollapalooza. As a TV host, Jimmy London fronted the Brazilian franchise of “Pimp My Ride Brasil” on MTV in 2007 and 2008. Since 2013, he has hosted Multishow’s live broadcasts of “Rock in Rio,” interviewing and commenting on the attractions from the main stage.
