About Majhas
Since their inception in the hot summer months of '99, Majhas has continued to produce some of the most heart-stopping, fist-clenching hardcore in existence today. Rising from the ashes of early 90s Indianapolis hardcore bands such as Ice Nine, Endive, and Curb as a studio-only "project band"; Majhas quickly developed a sound all their own, honing their skills, and biding their time to unleash themselves upon a complacent scene. Vocalist Jon Michael Gioe has one of the most easily-recognizable and unique voices in heavy music today. His lyrics paint a mural of disillusionment and anger every time he picks up the microphone for another cathartic public display of raw emotive power. Initially, Majhas seemed destined to be relegated to an early grave when Jon Michael moved suddenly to New Orleans. A band that has not run its destined course however, like a first love, is a hard thing to forget. Two years later, Proper Jon found himself back in the Circle City and Majhas were ready to aggressively pursue the band full-time. Any pretense of Majhas remaining a side project was dropped, John Zeps (guitarist for hardcore heavyweights Ice Nine and Burn It Down) was brought onboard for six-string duties, and Majhas set out to conquer the world. Driven by John's guitar work and a solid foundation of one of the most talented rhythm sections in Midwest hardcore (Tom Roosa and Tony Reitz on drums and bass respectively), Majhas literally cause every show they play to erupt into a cacophony of regret, hurt, and ultimately hope; in an effort to rise above the hand that Life has dealt them. With each new composition, Majhas continue to push their own limits to find new sounds and meaning in a genre bursting at the seams with by-the-book song structures and mediocre musicianship. Like Odysseus, Majhas have returned to clean house and destroy all false suitors of the throne of heavy and emotional music.... No quarter is to be had or given, Majhas are back. —Clark Giles, HCNL ***Tony Reitz's latest band can be found at yuki (meow).***
