About Magna Carta Cartel
MCC (Magna Carta Cartel) is a Swedish alternative / experimental rock band from Linköping, Östergötland, Sweden, founded in 2006 by Martin Persner, Simon Söderberg and Pär Glendor. The founding members also included Arvid Persner on drums and Tobias Forge on bass. The band’s name originated from a conversation in a bar in Gothenburg in 2004. Initially conceived as a joke, the members agreed to adopt “Magna Carta Cartel” as their name if they ever formed a band together. Quote from official magnacartacartel.com: 14-05-2008 "Magna Carta Cartel is a group of swedish musicians, a band, that plays and writes music. Some of the music is instrumental, and some of it is not. All of it is sincere. Some people say that they sound like Petty, Vangelis, U2 and Moroder all at once, others say that they resemble the sounds of Floyd, Jarre, Oldfield, Morricone and Eno - and some even claims that the band's music sounds like a vacation from the music industry as is! Band says that "...music is music, not what gear you tend to use expressing it. Heavily distortion don't say metal, out-of-tune guitar doesn't mean indie. The way of expressing those the musical scores is merely coincidence, PR or lack of sense. The music is what counts. At least in our world. That is the trip for us." Line-up Martin Persner - Guitar/Vocals Simon Söderberg - Guitar/Vocals Pär Glendor - Guitar/Synthesizers Arvid Persner - Guitar/Drums Tobias Forge - Guitar/Bass" Quote from official magnacartacartel.com: 11-10-2009 "Magna Carta Cartel plays as they say “Radio-edited movie themes, for daily life and death”. Our music reminds of Vangelis meeting Tom Petty, trying to reach U2, willing to be Joy Division, feeling like ABBA, longing to be Brian Eno, remembering Jean Michel Jarre, looking at Metallica, sleeping with Mike Oldfield, dancing to Koto, hunting the Beatles, killing Morricone in a duel, snorting to Moroder etc." The band were active between 2007 and 2010, performing a total of about 10 shows during that period. Following Martin Persner’s departure from the band Ghost, where he took on the role of rhythm guitarist under his stage name “Omega” (also known as Indio Marcato), he reunited with MCC in 2017, releasing their 5-track second EP, “The Demon King”, which consisted of reworked material from previous years. The revived lineup featured Niels Nielsen as the new lead guitarist, along with founding members Arvid Persner, returning on drums, and Pär Glendor, filling the role of the bass guitarist, who had also contributed guitars and synthesizers on the band’s 2009 debut LP, “Goodmorning Restrained.”.
