About MAGATSUNOTE
MAGATSUNOTE is a mixed media project created by DONUTS Co. Ltd. in 2022 that combines music from well-known visual kei musicians with audio drama featuring well-known seiyuus, short stories, and art. The story consists of 16 characters, broken into six factions. Each of the factions make pacts with the devil for demonic power that can help their cause. The pact is displayed in the form of oni horns known as "magatsuno" that emit music. Each of the six groups are represented by their own song, and each drama season features original music. Throughout the series the drama voice actors also sing original songs and covers of existing visual kei songs. The story is a post-apocalyptic political drama taking place in the year 2222 featuring neo-futuristic aesthetics. After 90% of humanity was wiped out in 2022, an organization called ARK, led by the resurrected Oda Nobunaga, attempts to revive humanity, but becomes tyrannical over the years. A civil war breaks out between various factions, with the main revolution led by the resurrected Masamune (inspired by Date Masamune). Events and character relationships are marred by violence, greed, power, and influence from the devil himself. The last update to the project was on May 2025, culminating in an album featuring songs sang by the drama characters. It is unknown if the project is complete or on hiatus. Collaborative artists thus far, mostly in chronological order, include: Characters Songs Arlequin - "Libra", representing Masamune and Kojuro, members of the ARK Audit Bureau who have defected and attempt to lead the revolution Zero (Hz) - "惡鬼招雷" (trans: "Evil Oni Attracts Thunder"), representing Hideyoshi, Kanbei, and Kiyomasa, the short-tempered and hedonistic military leaders of MAD FANG Zombie - "Ultra Mushikera Boy", representing Mitsuhide, Toshimitsu, and Samanosuke, members of the violent and mentally unstable military faction Ouroboros that aspires to wipe out both humans and demons alike BXW (J-pop boy band) - "In the End", representing Ieyasu, Tadakatsu, and Naomasa, members of Hollyhock, a group that aspires to take over ARK RAZOR/R A Z O R - "Proof of Existence" and "Tsuioku no Hateninemure" (trans: "Reminiscence After Sleep"), representing Oda Nobunaga and and his right-hand man Ranmaru. Nobunaga is the ruthless ruler of ARK whose lust for conquest catalyzes the events of the series. Hazuki/葉月 - "Shingetsu" (trans: "Full Moon"), representing Rikudoen, a mysterious group of assassins consisting of Yukimura (whose design was modeled after Hazuki), Sasuke, and Saizo Luz - "Doll in Doom", representing Mephisto, the mysterious devil figure who arranges contracts between the series characters and their demon powers. Mephisto's character design holds similarities to Luz's features and fashion style. Note: Following Luz's arrest and prosecution for drug charges in January 2024, DONUTS Co. Ltd. removed this song from their catalog across all platforms. ダウト (D=OUT) - "Kessaku" (trans: "Masterpiece"), representing Rikyu and Enshu, a duo that makes up the artist group ORIBE. Primarily led by Rikyu, ORIBE designs anything from costumes to weapons to architecture, and their craftmanship is highly sought-after by military commanders. Series Music BabyKingdom - "GOLD", representing the season 1 side story alliance between the ARK Audit Bureau and MAD FANG XAAXAA - "闇と桜" (trans: "Darkness and Sakura"), representing the season 1 side story alliance between Ouroboros and Hollyhock.
