About Lynwood Slim

Lynwood Slim, born Richard Duran in Los Angeles, California on August 19th, 1953, is best known as a blues harmonica player and singer. He also also plays flute, composes, and produces and engineer recordings. Slim started playing harmonica at 15. His early influences include Jimmy Reed, Little Walter and Big Walter Horton. He played the Los Angeles music scene, sitting in with Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson and others, then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1977. Less than a week after coming into town, Slim replaced a band's previous harp player, Kim Wilson, who had left for Austin to form the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Slim became a major force on the music scene in Minneapolis, winning awards for best blues band in 1986. Slim moved to Amsterdam, Holland in 1988, returned to Los Angeles later that same year. He started working with Junior Watson, as well as Hollywood Fats Band alumni Larry Taylor, Fred Kaplan and Richard Innes. He started playing the flute after listening to James Moody and Herbie Mann. Lynwood Slim is best known as a singer in the style of smooth easy jazz/blues as well as his harmonica and flute playing. Recording credits include a number of solo CD's as well as 35 to 40 as guest performer, producer, engineer, arranger and song writer. Slim currently is a signed to Delta Groove, an independent blues label based in Van Nuys, California. He has toured and recorded in the United States as well as Europe, South America and Australia.
