About Lumaltok
Lumaltok was created 4 years ago in Zinacantan, in the Altos de Chiapas, Mexico . It debuted on the Kasahast Vanut Festival in San Luis Potosí, 9th of August 2008 . Lumaltok, which means “Mist” in tsotsil language, is integrated by six young musicians who have demonstrated that it is possible to make rock and blues in their vernacular language. They began their adventure with music as children. Observing the elders from their village playing traditional instruments during the feasts, they realized that they could express themselves in a similar, yet modern way. When they were about eight years old they begun to play guitar and whey they grew up, the Lumaltok project appeared in their minds. It took some years to carry it through and now they present their first album – “Lumaltok”, containing 9 songs singed in Tzotzil. Although it is rock and blues, all of their music is influenced by the traditional Maya melodies. You can appreciate it especially in the first song, “Son ik' al” which evokes the atmosphere of tzotzil carnival. The lyrics embrace the Indian communities' lifestyle, the young people's everyday problems, the importance of children as the future of every community and the necessity of conserving the earth's biodiversity. Lumaltok will present their first album “Lumaltok” produced by D' amate producciones on April 2009.
