About Luca Antonio Predieri
Luca Antonio Predieri (b Bologna, 13 Sept 1688; d there, 3 Jan 1767). Italian composer. A violinist, he was maestro di cappella in several Bolognese churches including the cathedral (1728-31). After moving to Vienna he became vicemaestro of the court chapel in 1739 and succeeded Fux as its director in 1741. He composed oratorios, other sacred music and c 30 operas, mainly given in Florence and Vienna. Several other members of Predieri's family were musicians, but some of the relationships are unclear. Giacomo (Maria) (1611-95) was organist at the cathedral in Bologna, 1679-93, a cornettist and founder of the Accademia Filarmonica. His nephew Antonio (c 1650-1710) was a tenor singer taking character parts in operas. Angelo (1655-1731) was a singer, composer and maestro di cappella, and teacher of G. B. Martini. Giacomo Cesare (1671-1753), another nephew of Giacomo and an uncle of Luca Antonio, was a composer (notably of oratorios), singer and maestro di cappella at six Bologna institutions. Giovanni Battista (fl 1730-55) was a composer and maestro di cappella. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
