About Leave the World

To fully appreciate the sound that is Leave the World, we would like to introduce you to the music that inspired the group… As a youth, Brian Daily mostly listened to classic rock. He frequently hummed along to the likes of Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, The Doors, The Who and many other ageless bands. Now, Brian has incorporated a modern flavor to his catalogue by exposing himself to art rockers - Radiohead and Coldplay as well as underground rock icons, NoFx, A.F.I., Modest Mouse, and Built to Spill. All of Brian’s musical influences make his rhythm guitar an essential part of the ‘Leave the World’ genetic make up. Before there was Grunge, there was Ugly Kid Joe. Most people don’t remember Ugly Kid Joe but for ‘Leave the World,’ Ugly Kid Joe became the inspiration for lead guitar player, Marc Chaldu. Growing up, Marc was an oldies fan. He loved Elvis, The Beatles, and The Beach Boys. As he grew older, Marc discovered Ugly Kid Joe and realized his six-string destiny. While teaching himself how to play the guitar, he plucked through Nirvana, Sugartooth, U2, and of course, Ugly Kid Joe. Lately, Marc acquires his inspiration from acts like Rival Schools, Lagwagon, Thursday, Jets to Brazil, and Charlie Hunter. Chris Lugo was always a technical person. His taste in music, even at a young age reflected as such. Chris listened to Steely Dan, The Police, and Rush. Chris’ world was rocked when he was introduced to Motley Crue via MTV. After seeing Tommy Lee playing on an elevated drum kit, that spun him upside down, Chris felt his calling. Leave the World’s drummer taught himself how to play while trying to emulate his thunder-god Tommy Lee. Chris still keeps his older influences close, while letting acts like Jamiroquai, Dave Matthews Band, B.R.M.C., The Strokes, A.A.F., and S.T.P. work their way into his head. Lately, Chris’ Latino heritage has been rearing it’s rhythmic head into Chris’ drum styling. The 80’s was essential in music and style for Alex Lugo. Although the singer/bass player shares musical interests with his brother Chris, Alex is a shoe-gazer at heart. Bands like The Cure, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, and various one or two hit wonders from that era left their impression on him. Alex’s feel for rhythm stems from listening to Earth Wind and Fire, Rick James, and the Gap Band, when he was too young to turn the radio on himself. Now, you can find Alex doing the 80’s twist to Doves, Badly Drawn Boy, Hooverphonic, and Pretty Girls Make Graves. Lately, Alex has discovered a taste for Latino Rock bands like Caifanes, Mana, and La Ley… contributing to an obvious South of the border flavor. And thus giving each band member a distinct flavor and ability to meld a SoCal sound all their own.
