About Larry Steele

Larry was born at home in Colorado in the year 1937 to Lester Franklin and Izola Ruth Steele. He had six brothers, Buddy, Fredric, Leslie, Monty, Rodney and Stanley Steele. He started playing music at the age of four and played it his whole life. He went to several different schools as the family moved a lot. He graduated from Castle Rock High School where he met and married his wife, Bobbi. Larry would play most of the dances at the small towns' town halls. He joined the Navy Reserves shortly after graduating and because he missed some meetings, he was drafted into the Navy. At the time he was drafted he was playing guitar for Glen Campbell in New Mexico. He served four years in the Navy and after he got out he had the top band in Denver for several years and played with several top artists. Larry had a hard life all of his life coming from a poor family that didn't know where their next meal was coming from most of the time and then having nine kids of his own. He started writing songs, "good songs" mainly about things that had happened in his life. If you would listen to his songs they could tell you a life story, a true story. He went to Nashville a few times and recorded some of his music one song making it to #9 on Bell Board Magazine. He got into some kind of a conflict with Frank Rose and Rose told him he would never record in Nashville again. Well to say the least he didn't but he was still very popular with several top recording artists. He took me back stage at the Grand Ole Opry and introduced me to Marty Robbins, Freddy Fender, Johnny Paycheck and several more. It made me proud when each and everyone of them told me that they had never met a man with as much talent as Larry Steele. Larry loved his family, his music and people. For some reason he just missed the boat. I've got several of his recordings on DVDs and would love to play them for the world to hear. Larry is gone now but I would love to see his music live forever and it would if the right people would hear it.
