Kylie Ann Minogue (born 28 May 1968) is an Australian singer, songwriter, and actress. Often referred to as the Princess of Pop, she has been recognized for her contributions to music and fashion. Her awards include two Grammy Awards, four Brit Awards, and eighteen ARIA Music Awards. She is regarded as the highest-selling Australian female recording artist, with estimated global sales exceeding 80 million records. In 2024, Time included her in its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Born and raised in Melbourne, Minogue gained early prominence for her role as Charlene Robinson in the Australian soap opera "Neighbours" (1986–1988). She began her music career in the late 1980s, releasing four dance-pop studio albums under PWL. By the early 1990s, she had achieved multiple hit singles in Australia and the United Kingdom, including "The Loco-Motion", "I Should Be So Lucky", "Especially for You", "Hand on Your Heart", and "Better the Devil You Know". In 1993, she signed with Deconstruction Records and released the albums "Kylie Minogue" (1994) and "Impossible Princess" (1997), taking a more active role in shaping her musical direction. After signing with Parlophone in 1999, Minogue returned to a more dance-oriented mainstream sound with "Light Years" (2000), which included the number-one singles "Spinning Around" and "On a Night Like This". Its follow-up, "Fever" (2001), became her most commercially successful album and marked her international breakthrough. The lead single, "Can't Get You Out of My Head", topped charts worldwide and became one of the best-selling singles of the 2000s, with sales exceeding five million copies. Subsequent singles such as "In Your Eyes" and "Love at First Sight" also achieved commercial success. In the following years, she continued to experiment with various musical styles, releasing singles including "Slow", "I Believe in You", "2 Hearts", and "All the Lovers". In 2017, she signed with BMG, releasing several number-one albums in Australia and the United Kingdom, including "Golden" (2018), "Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection" (2019), "Disco" (2020), "Tension" (2023), and "Tension II" (2024). She is the only female artist in the United Kingdom to have achieved a number-one single in four consecutive decades and number-one albums in five consecutive decades. In addition to her music career, Minogue has appeared in several films, including "The Delinquents" (1989), "Street Fighter" (1994), "Moulin Rouge!" (2001), "Holy Motors" (2012), and "San Andreas" (2015). In 2014, she served as a judge on the television programs "The Voice UK" and "The Voice Australia". Her other activities have included product endorsements, book publications, fragrances, charitable initiatives, and the launch of a wine brand. Her honors include induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame and appointments as an Officer of the Order of Australia and an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, as well as being named a Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and receiving an honorary Doctor of Health Science degree.
