Kryand

About Kryand

Kryand is the musical creation of Nick Mellin. Nick has been a string bassist since the age of 11, and since then he has explored multiple style of music and gained an interest in composing songs. After graduating high school in 2006, he began experimenting with MIDI sequencers to compose entire songs. Eventually he purchased his first two instruments: a five-string bass and a seven-string guitar, and began recording the songs. The drums were simulated with a sampler, though drummer James Watts is a potential choice for a session drummer, and possibly full-time member, once the band is more than just one person recording tracks. The musical influences of Kryand vary greatly. Progressive bands such as Dream Theater and Rush, thrash and groove metal bands such as Megadeth and Pantera, technical bands such as Meshuggah, heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, power metal bands such as Symphony X, rock bands such as Audioslave and Queen, funk rock/metal bands such as Primus and Incubus, and even musicians not confined to rock at all, such as drum and bass artists Pendulum and Paul B and 19th-century composers Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn. Even the world of video game soundtracks by Nobuo Uematsu and others has impacted the compositions of Kryand. The name Kryand comes from an unpublished (and for the most part, unwritten) story, also by Nick Mellin. Further details are currently unavailable, though Nick is known to use this name for almost all interaction via the internet. It seemed to be a usable name for his band as well, so that's how it ended up.
