About Kristin Sedivec

Kristin Sedivec is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, singer-songwriter, and artist currently living in Brooklyn, NY. She began her musical career taking piano lessons with her mother at the tender age of 4, but frequent temper tantrums at the home studio quickly earned her a reputation as a diva, and regularly scheduled lessons petered out by jr. high. Luckily, grade school band introduced a new kind of structure and discipline, and the deviant 10-year-old chose oboe as her primary instrument. Since then, she has added English Horn, saxophones, flute, tin whistle, piano, fiddle and guitar to the list. With performance training in classical & jazz styles, and influences ranging from American folk-rock, bluegrass, & pop to world music & electronica, Kristin is a skilled and versatile musician with quite a good ear (but only one, literally, as she's 90% deaf in her right ear). She earned a degree in composition from DePaul University in November 2005, and went on to perform and compose for the Bank of America employee chorale and the Ravenswood Community Orchestra. In 2008, she moved from her hometown of Chicago to New York and became principal oboist with the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra. While she still records her own music, she’s said that her main focus is to get back to her classical and jazz roots by playing more oboe. Ideally, she would like to guest perform and collaborate with other singer-songwriters. Meanwhile, she continues to work on her long-awaited debut album due for independent release sometime... in the near future. She's described it as a trial-and-error-process, and a great learning experience. Entering college, Kristin only had the equivalency of 3 yrs of formal piano lessons. As a senior, she repeated Piano VI, having previously failed DePaul's group piano class at multiple levels. She apologizes to her mother.
