KONNEXION BALKON was birthed in 1998 by the violinist and vocalist, Igor Stravansky and the clarinet player, Veaceslav Cernavka. At the start of 2007 they were joined by George Makhosvili on the bass, Vladislav Cojocaru on the accordion, the pianist Konstantin Kostov and, last but not least, the percussionist Gabriel Amadeus Hahn. All have completed their musical training and are just itching to make music. With their roots buried deep in the traditional music of their homelands, bound together and inspired by the same treasury of songs, with their classical training and inexhaustible wealth of new ideas, KONNEXION BALKON presents music with technical brilliance and passion that stirs the hearts of all hearers.. A wild and vibrant mix of traditional songs and new compositions. One minute free, wild and untamed interpretations of Slavic folklore, the next the poignant melancholy of quiet love songs. Unbound enthusiasm vibrates through the waltzes and Balkan swing as well as traditional Sinti and Roma songs. Liberating interpretations of an unforgotten song tradition glorifying deep yearnings and fulfilment. Well spiced with fiery spirit and a good pinch of humour.
