About Knudåge Riisager

Born in Estonia of Danish parents in 1897 - moved to Denmark with family at age three. At the University of Copenhagen Riisager studied music theory/composition with Peder Gram and Otto Malling - while also studying political science. Moved to Paris in early 1920s where he continued to study composition with Albert Roussel and Paul le Flem. Discovering Stravinsky and Les Six particularly influenced his music toward a more international style than other Danish composers. In 1932 Riisager studied in Leipzig with Hermann Grabner. Died 1974.
