About Kim Stockwood

Kim Stockwood (born on 11 November 1965 in St. John's, Newfoundland) is a Canadian pop singer and songwriter. She is a member of Atlantic Canadian regional supergroup, Shaye with Tara MacLean and Damhnait Doyle. Stockwood's first album, 1995's Bonavista, was a slow seller until it was rereleased in 1996 with an extra track. That song, "Jerk", became Stockwood's breakthrough hit both in Canada and internationally. Her other early singles included "She's Not In Love", "You Won't Remember This" and "Enough Love". In 1999, Stockwood released her second album, 12 Years Old. The title track from that album was a moderate hit. She also released You And Me and a new radio remix for Still was the album's third single. 2002 saw Kim collaborate with close friends Tara MacLean and Damhnait Doyle to form the band Shaye. A tribute to Tara Maclean's sister Shaye Martirano who died on May 24, 2002, as the result of injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident earlier that day on the Trans-Canada Highway in St. Leonard, she was aged 26. Shaye's debut album The Bridge (produced by Bill Bell and Jay Joyce) was released in 2003 on EMI Music Canada. The album features songs by Ron Hynes, Sinead Lohan and Crash Vegas. Support for the album included shows in Canada and Japan. "Happy Baby" the lead single, was nominated for Single of the Year at the 2004 Juno Awards. This was followed up by "Beauty" in January 2005. Their 2006 follow up, Lake Of Fire was released on EMI Music Canada. It was exclusively available on iTunes in November 2006, then released physically in February 2007. It was produced by Jay Joyce (Patty Griffin, Tim Finn, Chantal Kreviazuk) and features songs by Van Morrison, The Waterboys and Ron Sexsmith.
