About Kids At Risk

KIDS AT RISK snuck up on the national music scene in 2010 with their debut self-titled EP which saw the band lauded as Australia’s answer to Welsh indie/punk/pop brood, Los Campesinos. In 2011 Larissa Rate, Lee Devaney and Septimus Caton, the true identities behind the Sydney, Australia-based trio, come out of the shadows and show their versatility on the single, Doing The Best That We Can. This time around, the band don undies over their tights, fling on their capes and prove just how great they look in lycra after writing and recording the debut single and soundtrack for forthcoming feature film, Griff The Invisible. Their usual rock aesthetic was shed and indie-pop masks were tied, as they created a unique and meticulously arranged soundscape for the twisted rom com about a superhero with a difference. Featuring Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) and Maeve Dermody (Beautiful Kate), Griff The Invisible is the brainchild of debut director, Leon Ford. Described by media as “Kick Ass meets Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” Griff The Invisible is fresh, original and as universally relevant as it is identifiably Australian. A love story, a superhero motion picture and a quirky indie film with heart, Griff The Invisible was hand-picked to feature in Toronto Film Festival in late 2010 and will be premiered at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival in February. It will make an appearance in Australian theatres in late March 2011 and will be coupled with an official soundtrack release and national tour by the band (although at this stage the band are still undecided about the wisdom of wearing full leotards in Summer). Scoring the movie offered the threesome, under the guise of KIDS AT RISK, who last year featured as one of Tripe J’s Unearthed bands, the daunting task of writing a super hero theme tune, coordinating string parts to enhance the gentle development of Kwanten and Dermony’s relationship, in addition to the creation of soaring orchestral moments necessary to depict heroism on the big screen. It was here that KIDS AT RISK revealed their true collective super powers: as exceptional songwriters. Official site: kidsatriskband.com
