Recently, influences which have shaped Kel's own writing have come more from blues and jazz artists such as Tom Waits, Kathleen Brennan, Michelle Shocked, Dan Hicks, Madeleine Peyroux, KT Tunstall, Eva Cassidy, Bonnie Raitt, Ray Charles, Norah Jones, Ella Fitzgerald, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Randy Newman, Bob Dylan, Jim Hughart, Ray Brown, Danny Thompson as well as her parents who also perform on the folk festival circuit.
