About Katreeya English

Katreeya English is a famous Thai singer and actress who began her career in the 1990s and reached her peak popularity during the 2000s. Katreeya first entered the entertainment industry by starring in a music video for Jay Jetrin, a top artist under GMM Grammy. After that, she began working in modeling, commercials, children’s TV hosting, and acting in many well-known dramas, which led her to become one of the rising young stars of the 90s. While hosting a children’s program, she released one soundtrack album in 1994, which eventually led to an invitation to audition as a singer under GMM Grammy, the leading record label in Thailand. After passing the audition, the label trained her intensively in singing and dancing, and during that period she was asked to pause all acting work for two years so the public would gradually forget her image as an actress. This was part of GMM Grammy’s plan to build her identity as a full-fledged pop dance artist. After years of training and album preparation, she released her debut album Kat Around The Clock in 2001. It was a massive success, selling almost one million copies, and produced several of her most iconic hits such as “OK นะคะ,” “นอกสายตา,” “อย่าซื้อเวลา,” and “ติ๊กต๊อก.” Her success that year led to multiple follow-up projects including her involvement in the special dance-music compilation Cheer, a collaborative album with Mos Patiparn, and the group project 2002 ราตรี alongside China Dolls, Ya Ya Ying, and Jenny from JAMP. The group became one of the most notable pop phenomena of that era, especially with the hit “จีนี่จ๋า,” and with Katreeya’s own standout track “ผีเสื้อราตรี.” The following year, she worked with Thailand’s biggest artist Bird Thongchai on the song “แฟนจ๋า” from his album ชุดรับแขก, which became extremely popular and led her to join his nationwide concert tour. In 2003, she released her second album Siamese Kat, though the response was less successful due to the departure of producers who had previously shaped her sound. This change resulted in a shift in musical direction that did not resonate as strongly. In 2005, she returned with her third album Lucky Girl, which significantly shifted toward pop R&B with dance elements. The album produced major hits like “Burn,” “I Think I (Thai Version),” and “Baby I Miss You,” earning her a strong comeback and opportunities to represent Thailand at music festivals in Asia. That same year, she reunited once again with the members of 2002 ราตรี for a refreshed concept under the name 2005 Tiwa Hula Hula, which became another widely successful summer-themed project. In 2006, the group reunited again for 2007 Show Girls, though promotion was limited because two of the album’s lead singles were banned from broadcast due to their provocative choreography. In 2007, Katreeya released her final album under GMM Grammy, Sassy K, which leaned even further into R&B. Although the reception was more modest, the album marked her final major release before deciding not to renew her contract with the label. She shifted her focus back to acting full-time and has continued working steadily in television, film, and live events. Today, she still occasionally reunites with the members of 2002 ราตรี for concerts and special performances. She has contributed sporadically to soundtracks and special music releases, but her main career focus remains in acting, while still being fondly remembered as one of Thailand’s most iconic pop dance performers of the 2000s.
