Kasule
About Kasule
Kasule’s debut album, as the title suggests, is a demonstration of the bands powers. Their music, however, is harder to categorise. Electronic instrumental post-rock? Mmmm, to pigeon-hole into any old over-subscribed genre (or sub-genre) would be a disservice and an oversight to their distinctive sound. Demonstration’s songs range from the accordion-fused indiepop of “That Guy Ritchie” to the creeping bliss-noise of “Five Four”. That Kasule manage to pull this off without coming across as pic’n’mix genre-hoppers is a credit to their craft. “Love You Always” with its heartbeat rhythms, chiming guitars and lamenting cornet, ebbs and flows like a daydream lullaby –imagine an Angelo Badalamenti score performed by The Cure and Tortoise, and you’re half way there. The albums centrepiece, “Christie”, will eventually put Kasule on the map as true standard-bearers of a new noise electronica, its big reverb beats and chainsaw guitar assault builds and crashes like New Order spliced with Godspeed You Black Emperor! -apocalyptic post-rock you can dance to! Demonstration is an assured debut, both an exhibition and a revelation. Get the placards out. Groundbreaking.
