About Karl Demata
KARL DEMATA has been living the life of the relentless musician for years. Born in Italy and relocated to the UK after a period of world travel, Karl has spent years playing, touring and recording with a wide range of bands. Inspired by the late-sixties British and American Blues-Rock scene, Karl started playing in his early teens but soon expanded his musical horizons to include a wide variety of styles. In the early days it would not have been unusual to perform in a punk band at night, study musicology at college in the morning and hone traditional blues slide and flatpicking bluegrass guitar techniques in the afternoon. These days, he shares his schedule between European and American tours with British Prog/Post-Rock ensemble Crippled Black Phoenix, festivals and club appearances with Oxford's rowdy 'punk-jazz' combo The Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band, and session work for many other bands and musicians. Over the years of playing Oxfordshire music festivals and clubs, performing acoustic and electric sets and jamming with various friends, his own songs began to emerge and solidify, culminating finally in his first ever solo project. With influences ranging from Cream to The Allman Brothers Band, “Cross The Mountain” is a guitar-heavy album full of blues-rock power trio flavors that is not afraid of exploring diverse influences, effortlessly alternative heavy driven blues-inspired tunes to atmospheric ballads. From the psychedelic drive of “Cross The Mountain” to the Americana twang of 'Never Come Around' to the Floydian 'The Circus', this album is as much a testament to Karl’s true musical loves as it is to his mastery of diverse guitar styles. “Cross The Mountain” features special guest Hugh Flint (from the John Mayall & the Bluesbreaker featuring Eric Clapton 'Beano' album fame), Chris Heilmann (Crippled Black Phoenix, Torme, Shark Island) and Merijn Royaards (Crippled Black Phoenix).
