About Joyce Jonathan

Joyce Jonathan (born on November 3, 1989 in Levallois-Perret) is a French singer-songwriter and France's first major success to be spawned by the internet. Jonathan revealed a precocious talent for music as a child; she began playing the piano when she was only five, and picked up the guitar a few years later. Jonathan began writing songs when she was 11 years old. At 18, after her graduation, she had only one thing in mind, to be a singer-songwriter. She started on the website MyMajorCompagny, a French online music service that allows new artists to distribute their work on the internet and solicit contributions from fans. She sent some songs to Michael Goldman, director of MyMajorCompagny who invited her for an audition. At the end, he was amazed by her performance and he accepted to support her. My Major posted some of Jonathan's songs, and the response was enthusiastic enough that she was able to finance the recording of her first album, with donations posted on the site. With her charming personality and a pure and delicate voice, she collected almost 70.000€. Her 1st single “Je ne sais pas“ (I don’t know) debuted online in December 2009, and with her clear, sweet voice and emotionally resonant lyrics, the song soon found a large audience. Following by “Pas Besoin De Toi” (No Need From You) few weeks later. This song was posted on MyMajorCompagny’s website to promote her 1st album. Finally, on January 18th, 2010, she release 1st album titled “Sur mes gardes” (“On My Guard“) including 12 original songs. She became the first female artist being produced by MyMajorCompagny. It was recorded with producer Louis Bertignac and the album was awarded a Gold disc five months later, and Jonathan soon gained popularity as a live act, playing some of the most prestigious venues in France.
