About Johnny Doughty

Johnny Doughty (1903 - 1986) was a fine English traditional folk singer. He was born on 1st September 1903 in Brighton, England. He left school when he was 13 years old and spent the next two years herring catching until he joined the Royal Navy as a boy sailor in 19l9. After the Navy he ended up in Rye, Sussex, with his two boats, the Ocean Reaper and the Helen Mary. Recordings: The Golden Vanity (Topic TSCD600).
