About John's Black Dirt

Minneapolis based band featuring Mike Huber, Brett Mizelle, and Seth Mindel. JBD existed from 1991 until 1996. Mike played with Mercury Rev before moving to Minneapolis, he can be heard playing drums on Yourself Is Steam record. Brett played bass with Unrest when he was a student at Georgetown. Seth played in Mother's Day. The band released a few 7” records before releasing the first full-length that was titled Perpetual Optimism is a Force Multiplier which is available now on Spotify. They also appeared on a tribute to Sinatra comp, Stuck On AM: Off The Record In Minneapolis which was a fundraiser for Kristen Pfaff Memorial Fund as well as a few other compilations. A second full-length record called "Horrible Moments of Upness," engineered and produced by Dave Fridmann was set to be released in 1995. After the mastering for the album was finished, the label abruptly dropped the band. Leaving the album to be unreleased. The album is available 25 years later!
