About Joe Taschetta

Joe Taschetta was born on December 28th 1942, at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend Indiana to Joseph and Angela Taschetta. They moved to South Bend during WW2 so Joseph Sr. could work at Bendix, but ultimately moved back to Chicago after experiencing homesickness when Joe was 6 months old. In 1950, they moved to Wheaton, Illinois, where he graduated Wheaton High school in 1961. He died on July 22nd, 2018 in South Bend from a heart attack. Later, he studied engineering at Iowa State University in Ames, where he met his wife Anne Dominy, who he married a week after his graduation, moved out of the state, and had two children together. Later in the 1980s, they ended the marriage after the children were grown. After returning and finishing his degree, Joe worked as an educator at numerous universities. While teaching, he inspired many students. Joe's love for folk music permeated throughout high school, where he excelled at the banjo, guitar, and autoharp. He created a banjo instructional book in the 1970s: The Five-string Banjo Primer--If A is May, F# Must be February. Joe travelled with the Iowa Arts Council, teaching and performing at schools and community festivals (where his albums were recorded). During this time, Joe also offered tutoring sessions on Tuesdays, 7:30pm at the Underground Computer e 280.
