Joe Parker and the Power

About Joe Parker and the Power

Signed to Sotones Joe Parker And The Power are a multi-member, multi-influenced, multi-located guitar-based rock group originally from Southampton, UK but now scattered across Europe. Their music veers from raw, Clash-powered garage rock to melodic, skewed Pavement-esque indie and gritty, plate-reverb-drenched barroom ballads. Formed in January 2007 to gig an EP recorded by Lonely Joe Parker the previous year, they toured extensively throughout spring and summer, including appearances with varied acts such as Voodoo Glow Skulls, SixNationState, Thomas Tantrum, SKULLS, Peter Lyons, Edward J. Hicks, Simon Breed and Starfighter-X to name but a few. Highlights of 2007 were second support billing on the Main Stage of Access Festival in front of thousands, in-session appearences and airplay on student and local radio across the UK, culminating in an emotional sold-out final show of 2007 as key members Dave and Rob Wade-Brown (The Beaux Hardts) emigrated to Barcelona. Collaborators Jimi Ray and Campbell Austin (Moneytree) and Ollie Austin (The Moulettes) however stayed to complete work (along with guest guitarist Dave Miatt - Thomas Tantrum) on a follow-up EP, 'Do This!' due to be released through Sotones in 2009. Virtually every labelmate from co-operative label Sotones has appeared onstage with the Power at some point, and this chequered history is reflected in their musical evolution, from squat-punk noise brawlers ('Bee Stings') to slick balladeers ('Number Nine') and terse, angular guitar patchworks ('Buttercup') reminiscent of Tokyo Police Club or At The Drive-In. Joe Parker is currently musically active as Lonely Joe Parker. Press: "I would never have believed this brewery-emptying, drug-hoovering rabble capable of the sheer pop brilliance of 'Bee Stings' had I not heard it with my own ears" - Charm Offensive "... a fuzzy thrash with a summery pop heart, a modicum of silliness and some great pots and pans drumming" - Nightshift Web: Label Page - www.sotones.co.uk/joeparkerandthepower MySpace - www.myspace.com/joeparkerandthepower
