About Joe Carter
The first is Joe Carter, a Chicago blues guitarist, born October 20, 1927 in Helena, Arkansas, and died July 15, 2012 of heart failure. He moved to Chicago in the 1950s and became a fixture in South Side clubs, playing with musicians such as Lacy Gibson, Sunnyland Slim, and Lee Jackson. His style was straightforward, with a raw tone and phrasing inspired by T‑Bone Walker, keeping traditional electric blues alive in small venues and independent recordings. The second is Joe Carter, an American jazz guitarist, born 1959 in New York City. A graduate of New York University, he studied with John Scofield and Lee Konitz, building a career focused on the fusion of jazz and Brazilian music. He recorded albums such as Um Abraço no Rio (1996) and Both Sides of the Equator (2012), collaborating with Nilson Matta, Portinho, and Maurício Einhorn. He is a professor of guitar and world music in Connecticut, known for his refined touch and seamless blend of bebop and bossa nova.
