About Jesse Osborne-Lanthier
Jesse Osborne-Lanthier is a Montreal-born, Berlin-based multidisciplinary artist, producer, and sound designer. Active in the avant-garde electronic scene since 2007, his musical pathway began at the age of 16 playing the drum kit for local metal bands. Transitioning away from acoustic percussion, he immersed himself in the digital realm, swapping video games for marathon sessions on early DAWs like Fruity Loops and Jeskola Buzz Generator. Unable to afford formal university tuition for electro-acoustic composition, Osborne-Lanthier is fiercely autodidactic; he learned synthesis, complex oscillator programming, and audio engineering entirely through internet forums, online tutorials, and relentless trial and error. His sound is heavily rooted in experimental, IDM, breakcore and deconstructed club music. His compositions are intensely tactile and elastic, morphing rapidly from aggressive, uncanny-valley sound design to sweeping, profound choral synthesizers. A defining element of his production methodology is his radical embrace of technological unpredictability. He relies on generative software manipulation, deliberately using random parameters in modular tools to create digital errors that he then isolates and sculpts into complex rhythms. Unconventionally for the experimental scene, Osborne-Lanthier is a staunch defender of the "preset era," frequently utilizing unmodified, out-of-the-box software presets—particularly from Absynth and Kontakt—to generate hyper-real simulations of traditional instruments. Operating solo under his own name as well as the obscure aliases Noir, Meat Parade, and Mor† , Osborne-Lanthier is also a prolific collaborator within formal group monikers. He operates across a wide variety of genres alongside his peers: Marie Davidson & L’Œil Nu: Formed with Marie Davidson, Pierre Guerineau, and Asaël R. Robitaille, this band focuses on avant-pop, new wave, and synth wave, blending electronic frameworks with acoustic instrumentation and traditional song structures. Orchestroll: A duo with long-time collaborator Asaël Richard-Robitaille. They create digital surrealism and slambient, playfully mashing together EDM, pop, rock, new age, and musique concrete. Femminielli Noir: A collaboration with Bernardino Femminielli, exploring demented darkwave, experimental pop, and sleazy, erotic electronic sounds. The H: A raw, hardware-driven noise and minimal techno duo with Francesco De Gallo (also known as Hobo Cubes). Escapists: An archival side project, also with Francesco De Gallo, dedicated to early, abrasive cassette experiments and drone. Anna Arrobas: An ethereal, vocal-driven dream pop and ambient group featuring vocalist Anna Arrobas, alongside Asaël Robitaille and Shane Hoy. As a commercial sound designer, Osborne-Lanthier's influence quietly permeates the broader music industry. He has designed factory presets and demo sounds for industry-standard synthesizers developed by Native Instruments and Arturia. Beyond his musical output, he is the co-founder of the Montreal-based publishing house, design agency, and record label Éditions Appærent, launched alongside Pierre Guerineau and Will Ballantyne. His live performances and audiovisual installations have been featured at premier international institutions and festivals, including Mutek, CTM Festival, and the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal.
