About Jerónimo Murciano

Jerónimo Murciano (b. c.1649 – d. after 1681) was a Turolense cleric-musician whose career links Albarracín and Teruel at the moment when large-scale polychoral practice was taking root there. Trained and employed as a tenor at the cathedral of Albarracín, he later served briefly as maestro de capilla at Teruel before returning to Albarracín, where he held the magister cantus post and, in his will, bequeathed his music books to the cathedral—an act that triggered a detailed inventory of the musical holdings. A diocesan chronicle describes him retrospectively as “magister canto que fue de esta santa iglesia”, and a perpetual anniversary was founded from the value of his donated music, suggesting both local esteem and a substantial personal library.
