About Jehan Chardavoine
Jehan Chardavoine (born c. 1537 in Beaufort in Anjou and died c. 1580 in Paris) was a French Renaissance composer. We know little about the life of Jehan Chardavoine, known from his collection of folk songs, published in 1575 . This book contains 186 songs, some simply compiled and edited by Chardavoine, and others being his own adaptations monophonic to polyphonic compositions of previous works by composers such as Jacques Arcadelt, Pierre Certon or Pierre Cléreau. In most cases, it has sufficiently transformed the original music that can be considered to have created a completely new song. Jehan Chardavoine can not be considered as a poet is not the "songwriter" whose songs he merely noted the air. It's like a musician that his name is retained. He sometimes reused tunes "old", it has to date, adapting poems by poets of his time, such as Clément Marot , Mellin de Saint-Gelais , Jean-Antoine de Baïf , Stone Ronsard and Joachim du Bellay .
