About Jeffrey Gilliam

*Short Version* Jeffrey Gilliam, originally from Cave Jct., Oregon, began his music career earning awards on the piano such as, "Outstanding Instrumentalist" at the Statewide Jazzband Festival, and Performance Scholarships three years in a row at Southern Oregon University, just to name a few. Since then he has opened for celebrities such as James Twyman, Elton John, Clive Barker, and even had his music licensed to United Airlines In-Flight Radio. It’s amazing what you can do when you really put your heart and mind into something. With more than 10 years of singing/songwriting, performing, and recording/engineering, Jeffrey Gilliam has independently produced Treasure Island, a fantastic group of upbeat pop songs, both fun and thoughtful all with his own hard earned professional skills. With a strong piano style and a voice that floats above it imagine taking the pop sound of Coldplay, mix in a little quirkiness of Ben Folds and a dash of Bruce Hornsby’s versatility. It’s something like that. Jeffrey’s paid his dues playing in bands that were doing shows with Elton John, India Arie, Ani DiFranco, STS9, Mickey Hart, Particle, The Flaming Lips, String Cheese Incident and more. *Long Version* When Jeffrey was still just an infant, his mother would spend hours just listening to lots of different piano music (jazz, classical, contemporary). Well it must have affected him on some level since he was the one, at nine yrs. of age, to go to his parents and ask if he could take piano lessons! They were delighted! He was lucky, he says, to have had a great piano instructor, Jerome Moffit, who taught a well balanced method of technique, (classical, and jazz & improv.) Jeffrey remembers, "My teacher and I would play a four hands duet by Bartok at the beginning of the lesson, then he put on a record of Oscar Peterson, the great jazz pianist, and blow my mind with the possibilities of improvisation." Jeffrey was simply in love with learning, performing and creating music. It was his focus all through grammar, and high school, which he studied in the small town of Cave Junction, OR. He played many different roles including singer/songwriter, rock n' roll band member, solo pianist, jazz band member, choir accompanist, well . . . you get the picture. In 1987, he went on to study Music at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, OR honing his composition, and performance skills while continuing to form more and more of his own unique sound and style. He began his music career earning awards on the piano such as, "Outstanding Instrumentalist" at the Statewide Jazzband Festival, and Performance Scholarships three years in a row at Southern Oregon University, just to name a few. A song from one CD became a finalist in the Song Of The Year and aired on radio shows nationwide.
