Eccentric, independent duo project launched in 2000 by Peter Wix (Continental Film Night, Tellerman) and Alicante artist Juan Aís, who turned their plans to produce a socially provocative magazine into a songwriting and recording venture. Fruit of this, two critically acclaimed albums: Lovely Cardoons, a 13-track Frankensteinian collection in 2001, out on the duo's own label, Vile Beauty; The Recall Code, a more coherent 9-track album produced by David Sheppard (Phelan Sheppard; Ellis Island Sound, State River Widening), which has had different indie label homes and is yet to be released in the UK. Despite declaring in interviews that they steer clear of genres, inevitable similarities have been drawn between the acid lyrics and Lynchian atmospheres of JPS and the work of alt. art pop exponents like Giant Sand, Sparks, Kevin Ayers, Brian Eno, Serge Gainsbourg, and Kevin Coyne. Madrid-based Wix is preparing more JPS songs while working on the Continental Film Night project and producing new outifts alongside London-based Sheppard. http://www.myspace.com/68735238
