About Jane Coop
Jane Austin Coop (born 18 April 1950) is a Canadian pianist and music pedagogue. She flew out of the gate with a series of wins at big international competitions before she was barely 20. Since then she's been a beloved teacher at the University of British Columbia, a collaborative pianist of rare sensitivity, a powerful interpreter of contemporary concerto repertoire and one of the most thoughtful and articulate pianists in Canada. She is a regular artist at the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival in Blue Hill, Maine, and has participated in summer and winter festivals across Canada, Europe, the US and Japan. From 1980 to 2012 she taught on the faculty of the University of British Columbia’s School of Music in Vancouver. In December 2012, she was appointed a member of the Order of Canada. In May, 2019 she was appointed to the Order of British Columbia (O.B.C.) She has been a juror at the Dublin International Competition (Ireland) and the Kapell (Maryland), Hilton Head (South Carolina), NYIPC (New York), Honens (Calgary), and Washington International (DC) competitions, as well as the Coleman (Los Angeles, and Fischoff (South Bend, IN) chamber music competitions. She has also been a jury member for the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards, the Glenn Gould Prize, the Hnatyshyn Foundation Developing Artists Grants and various Canada Council grant awards.
