About Jacob's Stories
Started in Brighton, UK in the Summer of 2003 as a collection of four track songs made for friends, Jacob's Stories is music made by a bearded singer songwriter named Stuart Lee . To date he has released three split singles (with Tyler, Good Morning Captain and Metronomes, respectively), a three song E.P ('Bird') and two full-lengths - 'Fledgling' (2006, Gravity DIP) and 'Undisciplined Art' (2008, self-released). Often compared to Hood, Sigur Ros, Talk Talk, and Radiohead, Jacob's Stories is best described as semi-electronic, mainly piano/organ-based, downtempo indie. In the live setting, Stuart has appeared with a full band, as well as just on his own, but the most 'standard' setup is with a female cellist who also contributes vocals. In the past he has played shows with Hell is for Heroes, Cave In, Hundred Reasons, My Latest Novel, Instruction, Stephen Brodsky, Johnny Truant, Hood, Minus The Bear, The Paper Chase, Stapleton and Adem among others. Jacob's Stories' most recent album, Undisciplined Art, was released in May 2008 and features 10 new recordings, some of which appeared as demos on his myspace in recent months. Review of 'Fledgling' - Jacob's Stories can have a mixed cast of characters when they play live, but ultimately it's the work of one man. Stuart Lee has been skirting around the periphery for quite some time now, with the odd release here and the odd one there. But now this Brighton-based balladeer has finally completed his debut full-length and it's simply stunning. Mixing sparse instrumentation with Lee's haunting vocals, 'Fledgling' is a truly captivating album - slotting into your record collection somewhere between Aereogramme and Radiohead circa 'Kid A'. Now, Thom Yorke does have a solo album out this month too, but if you've got any sense you'll spend your money wisely and get this record instead. Essential stuff. 9/10, Rock Sound Stu is giving 'Jacob's Stories' a little rest for the foreseeable future and is releasing his new album as Stuart Warwick. The album is 'The Ordeal'. It's pretty amazing. His new website is: www.stuartwarwick.com
