Island Dave's songs were completely written, performed, and recorded by Dave Nichols in 1999 and 2000 (except Get Me Outta Here, which was written/recorded in 2006, and On A Rainy Night, written by Shawn Mullins). They are raw, uneven demos at best, having been recorded in his bedroom and study with a 4-track, a beat up electric guitar, cheap acoustic, low-end keyboard, and a mic. Not being able to afford more at the time, all instruments were recorded with the vocal mic, leaving an eerie ambience throughout the tracks. Dave considers Mullins, Pink Floyd, and Willie Nelson as major musical inspirations, with moments of Metallica and Depeche Mode thrown in.
