About Internationale Nieuwe Scene
The Internationale Nieuwe Scene is a Belgian theatre collective based in Antwerp. It is modelled after the 'Nuova Scena'; an italian collective, famous because of nobel price winner Dario Fo. The internationale Nieuwe Scene was formed after succes of the opera 'Mistero Buffo' in 1970. An adaptation by Arturo Corso of monoloques by Dario Fo. 'Mistero Buffo' was the breakthrough of political theatre in Flanders. The music is mostly based on italian folk songs, the lyrics are written by Wannes Van de Velde. The collective was engaged in the revolutionary movement of the seventies (and even split up in 1976, as it was appropriate for political groups in those days) It has produced several productions, among which plays of Brecht. Today it only exists in theory but two of the forming members, Hilde Uitterlinden and Charles Cornette are still active as they are responsible for stage arts in the Zuiderpershuis, an intercultural centre in Antwerp.
