Igor Kefalidis (a.k.a. Igor Kefalidi, Russian: Игор Кефалиди) was born on March 15, 1941 in Moscow. Studied piano at Gnesin Musical School in Eugenia Kulakova class (graduated in 1957) and at Moscow Conservatoire Musical college in Avrelian Rubbakh class (graduated in 1961), continued education at Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in piano class by Samuil Feinberg (graduated in 1966 by Yakov Zak) and at the same time in the composition class by Rodion Schchedrin (graduated in 1971). In 1970s and 80s Kefalidis' interest as a composer (he created more than 60 opuses in various genres) was closely tied to Instrumental music, particularly Chamber and Piano music (Konsert i Bellmans Hus, Trio a quattro, three piano sonatas), plus Orchestra music (symphony and concerts). In 90's his major interest became concentrated around electronic compositions, where he demonstrated a new innovative approach to compositional technique. He was working intensively at electronic studios in France, Belgium, Germany bringing to life his creative ideas - Vogelperspektive for Magnetic Tape, audiovisual Grisions, Feu le fol, eh! (with laser show), interactive Zu seiner wahren Gestalt, microtonal Foxt 4x4 and other works. Kefalidis participated in the organization of several international musical festivals as a program coordinator: «Musikkultur heute» (German Music Festival in USSR), 1989–1990 (Moscow, Leningrad and other cities of the USSR); «Sergei Prokofjew und Zeitgenössische Musik aus der Sowjetunion», 1990–1991 (North Rein-Westphalia, Germany); «Making Music Together» (American Music Festival in USSR), 1991 (Moscow and other cities of the USSR). Member of the Associations of Modern and Electroacoustic Music (Moscow), and Studio LIGYS (Paris). Kefalidis is a regularly participant of international music festival "Moscow Autumn". His compositions were performed in many cities of Russia and former USSR, as well as in Germany, Austria, England, France, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Israel, USA, Australia, Japan, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Hungary and Brasil. Music of Kefalidis was performed under the conducting of Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Juozas Domarkas, Vasily Sinaisky, Dmitry Kitaenko,Vladimir Pon'kin, Pavel Kogan, Freddy Cadena and also in the interpretation of the following soloists - Tamara Gabarashvili, Nikolai Petrov, Victoria Postnikova, Liana Isakadze, Tatiana Grindenko, Marina Mdivani, Gerd Zacher, Marcel Cominotto, Mark Pekarsky, Mikhail Doubov, Victor Grishin, Andrej Vinnitski, Matthew Kocmieroski and Mikhail Shmidt (Seattle Chamber Players), ensembles - Icebreaker (London), Studio of New Music (conductor Igor Dronov).
