HUDAKI VILLAGE BAND comes from Transcarpatia – the mountain region squeezed between Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. For a hundred years this zone was a point of unofficial trading between representatives of the Big Europe. Due to its undeveloped economy it was proclaimed to be the „European Africa“! HUDAKI VILLAGE BAND invite us to go for a trip to a Carpathian village, an experience which you will not forget for a long time. Eight singers and musicians sing tragic ballads and humourous songs, they play wild dances and wedding marches with complex rhythms… There is no imitation or strict rules here: everything is genuine, reflecting daily realities of real people. Mischa, the violin player, cannot read music at all, but he cannot play music falsely either and he puts on a whole act of his own. Katia impresses with her mighty voice that can break through walls and reduce distances. Her singing style is accompanied by fantastic body language. Listening to Katia you get the feeling that she has known all these songs from her infancy, absorbing the spirit of the traditional music with the milk of her mother. And all together they radiate an energy that outshines all around. The musiс of HUDAKI comes from the very geographical centre of Europe, where for hundreds of years Russins, Hungarians, Romanians, Romas and Jews have lived side by side in peace. This became the source of the creation of this unique music that comes from the very soul! HUDAKI VILLAGE BAND was created following the meeting of traditional Carpathian wedding musicians and explosive singer Katia in 2001 when they were presenting the musical culture of Trancarpathia on the big Ukrainian stage. This initial spark has shone on in their many performances and since then HUDAKI has given over a hundred concerts in Western Europe and has recorded two CDs. In 2006 we were joined by virtuoso cymbalist Volodia and 17 year old Olga (Golden Voice of Ukraine).
