About Horst Schroth

Horst Schroth was born on July 29, 1948, in Münchberg. He is a German cabaret artist, author, and actor. Initially, Schroth completed a degree in business administration, later pursuing studies in history and social sciences. During his academic years, he worked as a director's assistant at the theater and later transitioned to acting. In the mid-1970s, Schroth, along with Michael Batz, co-founded the Free Theater Group "Theater zwischen Tür und Angel" in Hamburg. This collaboration led to numerous productions in street theater and children's theater. From the mid-1980s, Schroth turned to cabaret. Initially, he collaborated with Achim Konejung and Michael Batz on programs such as "Die Volkszählungsrevue" (1983 and 1987) and "Sex Total" (1987). From 1989, Schroth teamed up with Konejung. In 1989, their production "Gnadenlos deutsch" premiered, offering a precise and politically satirical analysis of German reunification. In recognition of their work, the duo received the prestigious "Deutscher Kleinkunstpreis" in 1990. In 1999, Schroth again received the award, this time for his solo performances, making him one of the few comedians to win this prize twice. Additional notable awards include the 1999 "Stern des Jahres" from the Münchner Abendzeitung and the Leipziger Löwenzahn. In 2007, he was honored with the "Tegtmeier-Ehrenpreis" in Herne. During the 90s, Schroth presented productions like "Alles meins!" and the legendary cabaret projects "Reichspolterabend" (1990, 1992, and 1994) with fellow cabaret artists Heinrich Pachl, Arnulf Rating, Matthias Beltz, and Achim Konejung. In 1994, Schroth introduced his first solo program, "Null Fehler – Herr Laux versteht die Welt nicht mehr," followed by "Scharf auf Harakiri" (1996), "Herrenabend" (1998), "Katerfrühstück" (2002), "Nur die Größe zählt" (2005), "Wenn Frauen fragen – Das Beste aus 10 Jahren" (2008), and "Grün vor Neid" (2008). His program "Was weg ist, ist weg" premiered in August 2011. The comeback program "Null Fehler – Lehrer Laux" debuted on February 14, 2014, at the St. Pauli-Theater in Hamburg. "Wenn Frauen fragen" has been on tour alongside each current program since 2008. In 2013, "Wenn Frauen fragen" was released as a book. The successor program, "Wenn Frauen immer weiter fragen," premiered in 2017. Ulrich Waller directed all solo programs. From the fall of 2019 to June 2020, Schroth presented his final tour, "Schlusskurve … mit dem Besten aus 40 Jahren," bidding farewell to his audience after four decades of performance. In addition to his stage work, Schroth contributed to radio and television, frequently appearing as a guest on cabaret shows like "Scheibenwischer" or "Mitternachtsspitzen." In 2004 and 2005, Schroth played the lead role of Paul Wagner in the ZDF family series "Halt durch, Paul" and its sequel titled "Papa ist der Boss." Since 2007, Schroth has been residing in Ahrensburg with his wife and two dogs.
