About Holly Kirby
Holly Kirby is a singer-songwriter and musician from the Isle of Wight, England. She started playing the piano, clarinet and singing at the age of ten. "After beginning piano lessons aged 10, lunchtimes were always spent in the school music room practising Enya songs on the piano" she says. Her YouTube channel, alpet07, which she set up aged 16 in 2007, is frequently one of the most viewed musician's sites on YouTube in the UK. In the past year much of Holly's work has been an eclectic mix of Celtic, folk and pop music. Holly appeared as Enya in a popular British TV show ("Stars In Their Eyes Kids") in 2006, when she was 15, singing "Orinoco Flow" and received congratulations from the great artist herself. Her work was also positively commented on by other famous stars, including Alan Rickman (a particular favorite of hers), and attracted a tweet from movie star Ashton Kutcher. Holly's YouTube videos have received approaching a million views in total, her channel main page has been viewed over a hundred thousand times, and she has more than three and a half thousand subscribers who are notified of each new video she produces. Holly enjoys all sorts of music and is very open to new ideas and new sounds. Holly especially enjoys performing music live, and as well as appearing on TV she has played and sung before crowds ranging in size from a couple of people while busking through to many hundreds in concert. Some of her influences include: Enya, Clannad Joni Mitchell, Tanita Tikaram, Suzanne Vega, Loreena McKennitt, Sharleen Spiteri, Dido, Sandy Denny. After a break in songwriting, during which she did some solo performances supporting Joan Armatrading and some appearances at the Wickham Folk Festival, Bestival and Isle of Wight Festival, Holly returned to release a new album on 1 July 2017, titled "The House". The album includes own compositions and a recording of the traditional Irish song "Star of the County Down", with the total of 7 tracks: Holly says "I'm letting the music lead me in a more certain direction - back in time to the country of my ancestors - Ireland." All of Holly's original music is now available on her offical website, www.hollykirbymusic.com.
