About Henry Francis Lyte
Henry Francis Lyte was the second son of Thomas and Anna Maria (née Oliver) Lyte. He was born on a farm at Ednam, near Kelso, Scotland. After studying at Trinity College, Dublin and with very limited training for the ministry, Lyte took Anglican holy orders in 1815. In 1817 Lyte became a curate in Marazion, Cornwall, and there met and married Anne Maxwell, daughter of a well-known Scottish-Irish family. In poor health throughout his life, Lyte suffered various respiratory illnesses and often visited continental Europe in attempts to check their progress died at Nice on November 20, 1847, where he was buried
