About Heino Kaski

Heino Kaski (June 21 1885, Pielisjärvi – September 20 1957, Helsinki) was a Finnish composer and pianist. He studied with Erkki Melartin, Jean Sibelius, Paul Juon and Selim Palmgren. Kaski was awarded a Pro Finlandia medal in 1950. The 72-year-old composer died on 20 Sep 1957 - Sibelius died the same day at the age of 91. Kaski thought his main work was his sole symphony, in B minor (his opus 16, from 1919). Other output includes piano music, songs and sonatas for violin (1920), cello (1923) and flute (opus 51, 1937).
