About Ha-Yang Kim

Born in Seoul and now a resident of Brooklyn, Ha-Yang Kim is a cellist, composer and improviser. She has developed a unique language of extended string techniques and electronics. Ha-Yang Kim is drawing upon influences as far ranging as Balinese and Karnatic traditions, jazz, rock, western classical music and downtown experimentation. Kim made her solo debut at age 16 with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Her music has since been performed in the US, Europe and Asia, and she has worked with numerous ensembles and artists throughout the world, such as; Evan Ziporyn, Cecil taylor, Lee Hyla, Louis Andriessen, Christian Wolff, Lukas Ligeti, Larry Polansky, Stefan Poetzsch and Nathan Davis, with whom she recorded parts of her first solo-effort, AMA.
