Ask anyone around the London, Ontario area who is into the underground scene who HINjE is and you will get one simple answer; "The heaviest, most insane live show you'll get to see around here." This is not rapcore, this is not nu-metal, if your into what's trendy at the moment, don't even listen to HINjE. If your into melodic, passionate, angry, heartfelt music with a message - tune in. Spending the last 6 years of their lives constantly writing music, recording demo's, and playing every gig they can get, HINjE has given birth to quite a following of loyal fans who would do anything for the band. Not until the middle of 1999 did they get the finalized line-up of band members that completed the tightly woven sound that HINjE creates. Dale Burrows (guitar/vocals), Rob Catto (vocals), Matt Macdonald (bass), Tom Wragg (drums), and Jeff Burrows (vocals) have created a mood altering sound that showcases so many different influences. Fans of nothingface, vision of disorder, taproot, and deftones will find a spot in their ears being taken over by HINjE's captive sounds. As if the demo cd's aren't enough, seeing a live show can be as intense as it gets. You put 5 guys onstage, and have them do what they love most, what they're lives revolve around, and what they use to get everyday emotions out, playing live, and you're gonna feel the music just as much, if not more than the band does themselves. Breaking out of Canada, as a heavy act in the underground scene is almost unheard of, but you can expect to see HINjE hitting a stage in your city soon enough. "hinje hail from the Canadian province of Ontario, an area not exactly known for heavy music, but if more bands like them emerge from such surroundings this could quite possibly change. Combining elements of rapcore with metalcore, alternative metal and new metal the group have an ambitious collection of songs contained here which are punctuated by enraged vocals and barbed guitar work. Vocally the album can take on many faces through the discs 14 tracks. Utilizing a slightly muddy flow, band front man Rob tears through various vocal tones with a slightly weird almost british sounding accent involved, giving him a sound similar to Senser. Yet for the most part, the bulk of verbal duties sound divided between a violent mixture of Taproot and Nothingface with an occasional slightly detached System Of A Down like croon. The Guitar work is fairly standard, utilizing generously downtuned riffs filled with forceful shoves to get the point across. In the vein of Korn and those before them they seemingly play up the role of a jagged ambiance to coat the drum and downtuned bass driven song structures, which come rife with floor tom battering breakdowns and the usual thuggish rolls. The group are easily one of the better acts to emerge in recent times from Canada's ailing new metal crop, but that in itself is unfortunately not saying too much as like most acts from the scene, they suffer from sloppy song writing and stereotypical structures and breakdowns. It's as though there's no solid focus throughout the material and it just charges forward piecing together rapping verses and screaming chant like choruses without ever generating enough solid emotion or energy to keep the listener entertained. In their defense there are a few various parts of the songs that do manage to tap into something substantial, but rarely ever is the full song able to achieve such a task. Still, with some more time spent on cleaning up their material and stringing things together in a tighter fashion, these boys could make a name for themselves, but as it stands now there's still some squeaks to work out of the hinge of the door before it will open for them properly.
