About Gunna Sound Ceilidh Band

Gunna Sound have been gigging live together for well over twenty years, performing in venues all over the UK, but in particular their native west coast of Scotland. The boys have attracted a large following of supporters young and old and are delighted to be back once more in Tiree to showcase their music in such an exciting and ambitious locally driven project. Coming on the back of their excellent debut album, the widely acclaimed ‘ Rollin’ on The Sea’, Campbell and Johnny have been as busy gigging as they have ever been, and for TMF are being accompanied and complemented by some fantastic friends and musicians as part of the Gunna Sound ‘big band’ they are an act not to me missed. If you are in any doubt of their talent here is what music aficionado, Tiree local stalwart, and Co director of Skipinnish Music, Angus MacPhail, has to say about Gunna Sound. ‘The Gunna Sound Ceilidh Band lead by Campbell Brown from the Isle of Tiree and Johnny Scoular from Lochaline in Morvern, are one of the very best Ceilidh Bands in Scotland – nobody would argue with that. But at what they do - their particular niche – they are probably the best. They provide their listeners with a combination of music, song and good craic that satisfies all the requirements of a proper West Coast horo gheallaidh! Pipe music, Country and Western, Gaelic waltzes, Scottish Dance Band, Gaelic Songs, Wild Ceilidh , Scottish and Irish songs are areas they cover and excel in – and nobody does this combination better. On a personal note, Campbell Brown is one of my longest standing musical heroes. His influence and encouragement has been instrumental to my musical path and that of most other Tiree musicians. Skipinnish, Skerryvore, Trail West, and any future products of Gordon Connel’s teaching legacy have much to thank The Gunna Sound Ceilidh Band for. They did it first and paved the way for the rest of us’.
