About Guillermo Galindo
Guillermo Galindo's artistic work spans a wide spectrum of artistic expression from symphonic composition to the domains of musical computer interaction, electro-acoustic music, opera, film music, instrument building, multimedia installation and sound design. His music has been performed and shown at major festivals and art exhibits throughout the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Presently, he teaches courses on composition, sound design, music cultural history, sound and performance and music theory at the California College of Arts and College of San Mateo. Galindo's major works include 2 orchestral pieces: Ome Acatl, based on the proportions and symbols of the Aztec Calendar, premiered by the OFUNAM National University Philharmonic Orchestra and Trade Routes for orchestra, spoken word and chorus, with text by San Francisco Poet Laureate devorah major commissioned by the Oakland East Bay Symphony Orchestra to open its 2005-2006 concert season. Guillermo Galindo has also written two operas; Califas 2000 with text and performance art by MacArthur Fellow Guillermo Gomez Pe?a and Decreation/Fight Cherries with text by MacArthur Fellow Anne Carson. On 2006, Galindo's composition "Post Colonial Dicontinuum" for chamber orchestra and electro-mechanic cybertotemic objects, commissioned by the Earplay Ensamble, will be premiered at the San Francisco International Arts Festival. Galindo's most recent work has focused on music as ritual, audience live interaction, cyber-totemic sound objects and site specific sound sculptures . His piece (T) our Time (1997-2002) includes a 24 hours a day broadcast of constantly evolving nature sounds from the top of world towers. This work was premiered at the San Francisco Ferry Tower. Galindo's recent collaboration with composer Chris Brown in the Transmission Series, a series of performances about the transmission of culture through the information media of sound and radio continues Galindo's exploration on of urban public spaces and the incorporation of the audience as an active element in the creation of music.
