About Goodbye Sunrise
Founded in late 2007-early 2008 at Millersville University in Millersville, Pennsylvania, Goodbye Sunrise was the newest project of singer/guitarist Tom Farnham and drummer Greg Bell (both formerly of Stranger Danger and Mercedes Lane) in which they were joined by Farnham's high school friend Joe Czajkowski on bass, and Greg Fisher (ex-The Premier) on lead guitar. The band mixed the pop-punk sound of bands like The Ataris and Fenix TX with indie influences like The Honorary Title and Copeland. Beginning in January 2008, the band regularly played shows in various regions of Pennsylvania. In February 2008, the band recorded their demo Sounds from the Basement while all members were still attending Millersville University. In March 2008, Fisher stopped performing live with the band. The band was then joined by young suburban-Philadelphia mainstay Billy Atkinson (Bill Aftermath) who was still in high school at the time. In June 2008 at a show in Shamokin, PA it was announced Atkinson joined the band as a permanent member. Czajkowski re-located in June 2008 and as a result Atkinson took over intermittent live bass duties. The band continued as a trio, but was joined by Fisher for an August performance at the final show of local friends Boy Girl Sleepover. In September 2008, the band began to slow down as Farnham joined area-band We Are Castles as a guitarist and founded The Hereafter, while Atkinson went on to join Spoons for Adam as lead guitarist. After a show at home-base venue Sacred Grounds, Bell left the band after moving back home to northern Pennsylvania. The band was then joined by drummer Chris Ferry (who would go on to also join The Hereafter) and began playing shows again in January 2009. Early 2009 showed slowed activity for Goodbye Sunrise, as all members were busy with other projects. The band kept with the trio formation for several shows. In June 2009, Atkinson joined his bandmates, playing live guitar for The Hereafter briefly after the departure of guitarist Brandon McCarty. Since 2009, the band has only played sporadic shows, including some with just Farnham and Ferry while Atkinson was pre-occupied with school and living abroad. In the mean time, Farnham and Ferry joined New Jersey band Rushmore. In early 2012, a Facebook page was made for the band announcing that Goodbye Sunrise was now primarily an acoustic side-project for Farnham, who performed occasionally under the moniker. The page also announced that although the band had ceased to play shows regularly, they had never broken up and all members were on good terms. On May 2012, the band played a show as a four piece for the first time since June 2009. Farnham and Atkinson were joined by original drummer Greg Bell as well as bassist Shawn Gamble (of Kick Back Tomorrow). Although Bell performed with the band, it was announced that Ferry was still the drummer of the band. In July 2012, Farnham, Atkinson, Gamble and Ferry performed together at the Trocadero Balcony in Philadelphia. No plans for future band activity have been announced since then, but members have acknowledged that they would like to do more Goodbye Sunrise related work in the future. ----- Lineup: Tom Farnham - vocals/guitar (2008-present) Billy Atkinson - guitar/vocals/bass (2008-present) Shawn Gamble - bass/vocals (2012) Chris Ferry - drums (2009-present) Past members: Greg Bell - drums (2008, 2012) Joe Czajkowski - bass/vocals (2008)
