Alternative Nu-jazz Improv Disc releases by Gilbert Isbin are now approaching twenty in number and from the very beginning, his music has been characterized by the duality of contemporary classical music and modern jazz influences. His compositions (appr. 120) are published by Berben Ediziones Musicales (Italy), The UK Lute Society, Lantro Music (B), Golden River Music (B), Kameleon Editions (B), Periferia (Esp) and Auurk Editions and have been performed.by a.o. the Spectra Ensemble,the guitarquartet Four Times A Lady, Quartetto Chitarristico Italiano, De Camer van Musiecke. With the Meander Ensemble he performs with lutenist Christian Vasseur and singer Inge Vansteenkiste contemporary lute songs and original duet compositions.With Iain Cameron he concentrates on imporvised music. He collaborated and performed all over Europe and in the US with a.o. Jeff Gauthier, Cameron Brown, Joe Fonda, Vinny Golia, Hanka Rybka, Scott Walton, Ernst Reijseger, Michel Godard, Jatinder Thakur, Hugh Hopper, Wolfgang Reisinger, John Ruocco, Fred Van Hove, Jaap Blonk, Sandro Di Stefano, Sandor Szabo, Chris Joris, Bruce Arnold, Christian Vasseur, ... He plays Casio Digital Horn, electric guitar and synthesizers. Over several decades he has been involved in bebop, sadhana music, folk rock, chamber music and electronica. He has written quite extensively about Nick Drake who he met at university. He played the flute for many years having been started on the instrument by Emile Spira, the last composition pupil of Anton Webern in the late 1930s.
